Chromatic freedom with useful presets
Chromatic mode works across the full note range. Presets narrow the target to familiar open strings, so the display stays useful when harmonics or nearby notes compete for attention.
Automatic mode follows the closest string. Manual mode locks the target when you want to check one string at a time.

What cents and A4 calibration mean
Use zero as the center
One semitone contains 100 cents. A negative value is flat, a positive value is sharp, and the tuner marks a note in tune within five cents.
Match your ensemble
A4 = 440 Hz is the common default. If your teacher, piano, or ensemble uses another reference, choose any value from 416 to 466 Hz.
Your audio stays in the browser
Pitch analysis happens locally with the Web Audio API. Virtu does not record, store, or upload microphone audio, and the microphone stops when you stop the tuner or leave the page.

Yes. It works in modern mobile and desktop browsers that support microphone access and the Web Audio API. Open the page over a secure connection, allow microphone access, and play one clear note.
Does Virtu record or upload microphone audio?
No. The tuner analyzes the microphone signal inside your browser. It does not record, store, or upload audio, and it stops the microphone track when you stop listening or leave the page.
What reference pitch should I use?
A4 = 440 Hz is the most common modern reference. Some ensembles use another value, such as 442 Hz, so the tuner lets you calibrate A4 from 416 to 466 Hz.
What is the difference between chromatic and instrument presets?
Chromatic mode identifies the nearest note across the full chromatic scale. Instrument presets guide automatic detection toward the strings in that tuning, and manual mode lets you lock the tuner to one selected string.
How do I get a steadier tuning reading?
Play one sustained note at a moderate volume, reduce background noise, and mute adjacent strings. Let the reading settle before making a small adjustment and checking again.
