Franz Schubert

  • Difficulty 6
  • F-sharp minor
  • 8 min
  • 202 measures

The second movement, Andantino, of Schubert's Piano Sonata in A major, D. 959, one of the three sonatas he wrote in September 1828, two months before his death; they were first published in 1839. A plaintive song in F-sharp minor and 3/8 gives way to a stormy middle section of runs, trills and sudden chords before the song returns over a new accompaniment. This edition follows the 1888 Breitkopf & Härtel collected edition.
