How do I connect my digital piano?
All you need is a USB cable. Virtu finds the connected piano by itself, so there is nothing to select.
Find the port on the back of the piano
Look for the square USB TO HOST port. The flat USB TO DEVICE port is for USB drives, so don’t use it. If the piano only has round 5-pin MIDI ports, you need a MIDI-to-USB interface cable.
Connect it to your device
An iPhone or iPad with a USB-C port needs just a USB-C to USB-B cable. With a Lightning port, plug the piano cable into Apple’s Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter and connect a charger to the adapter so it has enough power.
Most Android devices connect straight away with a USB-C to USB-B cable. If you use a USB-A to USB-B (printer) cable, add a USB-C OTG adapter.
Check the connection in Virtu
When the piano connects, you see MIDI connected. If Preferences › Input › Connected device shows Connected, you’re ready to practise.
Don’t see Connected?
- Make sure the piano is switched on.
- Charge-only cables can’t carry the signal. Use a cable that transfers data.
- Check that the piano’s USB/MIDI output mode is on, then unplug the cable and plug it back in.
