Play Virtu’s sound through a virtual instrument
Set Output device to MIDI and pick an instrument under MIDI output, and the music Virtu plays comes out in that instrument’s sound.
What you need
- A virtual instrument app on the same device that plays the MIDI it receives.
- A digital piano connected over USB works too: Virtu can play the score on the piano’s own sound.
Open the virtual instrument first
Virtu lists only the MIDI devices that are available right now.
In Preferences › Output, set Output device to MIDI
Once MIDI is selected, MIDI output appears below it. Pick the instrument you want to hear.
Play the score to check
If the sound comes from the instrument, you’re done. While the output is MIDI, adjust volume and reverb in the instrument.
Goes well with
- Turn on MIDI playthrough (Plus) and the notes you play go to the same instrument.
To go back to Virtu’s own sound, set Output device to Virtu Audio.
