Étude-tableau in D majorOp. 39 No. 9

The ninth and last of Rachmaninoff's Études-tableaux, Op. 39, written in 1916–17. Marked Allegro moderato, Tempo di Marcia, this D major march opens fortissimo with heavy chords in both hands, passes through restless chromatic passages and bars of irregular length, and builds to a fff close of pealing chords across the whole keyboard. This edition follows the Édition Russe de Musique engraving of 1920.
