Gnossienne No. 1
Erik Satie
Score
Satie's third Gnossienne, dated 1890 and published with the first two as Trois Gnossiennes by Rouart, Lerolle in Paris in 1913. Marked Lent, it has no time signature and no barlines: a slow melody winds over steady chords in the left hand, guided by Satie's own odd instructions to the player, such as Conseillez-vous soigneusement (take careful counsel), Ouvrez la tête (open your head) and Enfouissez le son (bury the sound). This edition follows the 1913 Rouart, Lerolle print.
