Prelude in C majorBWV 939

Johann Sebastian Bach

  • Difficulty 4
  • C major
  • 1 min
  • 16 measures

The first of the Five Little Preludes, BWV 939–943, which survive in a manuscript collection copied in the circle of Johann Peter Kellner. The right hand unfolds broken chords in eighths over a held low C; later the bass repeats G with mordents, and a run of sixteenths leads to the close. This edition follows the Bach-Gesellschaft edition of 1890, compared with the Kellner manuscript.
