Prelude in G-sharp minorOp. 32 No. 12
Sergei Rachmaninoff
Difficulty 8
Score
The fifth of Rachmaninoff's ten Preludes, Op. 23, written in 1901 and published in 1904. A march in G minor, marked Alla marcia, drives crisp staccato chords through both hands; the lyrical middle section, Un poco meno mosso, sings a broad melody over rippling sextuplet sixteenths before the march returns and fades away. This edition follows Gutheil's first edition of 1904.
