Prelude in C minorBWV 999

Johann Sebastian Bach

  • Difficulty 4
  • C minor

Bach's Prelude in C minor, BWV 999, survives in an eighteenth-century copy associated with Johann Peter Kellner, headed “Prélude in C mol. pour la Lute”; today it is played on the keyboard as well as on lute and guitar. A broken-chord figure in semiquavers runs over a bass that moves the harmony bar by bar, and the prelude ends on a G major chord, the dominant of C minor. This edition follows the Kellner copy.
