May: Starlit Nights, the fifth of the twelve pieces of Tchaikovsky's The Seasons, written for the St Petersburg magazine Nouvellist, which printed one in each monthly issue of 1876 under lines of Russian verse; May's come from Afanasy Fet. A quiet Andantino in G major and 9/8 frames a livelier Allegro giocoso in D major and 2/4, which eases into poco meno mosso before Tempo I. The Andantino then returns and dies away to ppp. This edition follows Louis Oesterle's 1909 Schirmer edition.
