The first movement of Beethoven’s Piano Sonata in B-flat major, Op. 106, the “Hammerklavier”, composed in 1817–18 and published in Vienna by Artaria in 1819. A leaping fanfare opens an Allegro at Beethoven’s own mark of half note = 138; the second group moves to G major, and the development builds a fugato in E-flat major and reaches B major before the return. This edition follows Paul Dukas’s edition for Durand, 1915.
