The first movement of Beethoven’s Piano Sonata in C major, Op. 53, composed in 1803–04, published in Vienna in 1805 and dedicated to Count Ferdinand von Waldstein. The Allegro con brio opens pianissimo with repeated chords low on the keyboard, and its second theme arrives in E major as a quiet, chorale-like melody. This edition follows Paul Dukas’s edition for Durand, 1915.
