Ludwig van Beethoven

  • Difficulty 9
  • C minor
  • 7 min
  • 160 measures

The first movement of Beethoven's last piano sonata, Op. 111, completed in 1822 and published in 1823. A Maestoso introduction of dotted rhythms and diminished-seventh chords leads to the Allegro con brio ed appassionato, whose stormy C minor theme is worked through a fugato before the coda fades away on a C major chord. This edition follows Paul Dukas's Durand edition of 1915.
