Fantasia in D minorK. 397

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

  • Difficulty 7
  • D minor
  • 6 min
  • 112 measures

Mozart's Fantasia in D minor, probably written in Vienna in 1782. A dark Andante of rising arpeggios leads to an Adagio whose sighing melody is broken by free, rapid runs, and the piece turns at last to a bright Allegretto in D major. Mozart left it unfinished; the closing bars played today come from early printed editions, and who wrote them is not known. This edition follows Breitkopf & Härtel's Oeuvres complettes, Cahier XVII, of about 1806.
