The first movement of Beethoven's Sonata quasi una fantasia in C-sharp minor, Op. 27 No. 2, published in Vienna in 1802 with a dedication to Giulietta Guicciardi and later known as the 'Moonlight' Sonata. Triplets flow without a break over a slow bass beneath a quiet melody, and Beethoven asks for the whole piece to be played very delicately and without dampers. Edited from Cappi's first edition and compared with the surviving holograph.
