The second movement of Beethoven's Piano Sonata in A-flat major, Op. 26, published in Vienna in 1802: a quick Scherzo in 3/4, marked Allegro molto. Its short phrases pass between the hands, with sudden sforzandos and running eighth notes; a smooth Trio in D-flat major, marked sempre legato, sings in long notes before the Scherzo returns. This edition follows Heinrich Schenker's Universal Edition.
