From Schumann's Carnaval, Op. 9, 'little scenes on four notes', composed in 1834–35 and published in 1837. 'Dancing letters': a Presto in E-flat major, leggierissimo, whose quick figures spell A-S-C-H; a Da Capo returns to the opening up to Fine, without the repeats. This edition follows the Breitkopf & Härtel first edition.
