The twelfth of the thirteen pieces in Schumann's Kinderszenen, Op. 15, composed in 1838 and published in 1839. A lullaby in E minor rocks in a short-long figure of a sixteenth and a dotted eighth over quiet repeated chords; the middle section turns to E major, the opening returns, and the piece drifts off on an A-minor chord held under a fermata instead of its home key. This edition follows the Breitkopf & Härtel first edition.
