Johann Sebastian Bach

  • Difficulty 8

  • 1 min
  • 42 measures

The E minor fugue from Book I of The Well-Tempered Clavier, the only two-voice fugue in the book, in 3/4 time. The subject opens alone in the upper voice in running sixteenths, and the lower voice enters in the third bar. After 42 bars the fugue ends on a short rising figure over a low E, followed by rests, with fermatas over the final barline. This edition follows Franz Kroll's Bach-Gesellschaft edition of 1866.
