Robert Schumann

  • Difficulty 7
  • A minor
  • 2 min
  • 72 measures

Knecht Ruprecht, the twelfth of the 43 pieces in Schumann's Album for the Young, Op. 68, written in 1848, is named after Saint Nicholas's gruff companion in German Christmas lore. Both hands open in octaves deep in the bass in A minor; a middle section in F major begins softly, and the opening returns written out, ending on three forte chords. This edition follows Clara Schumann's 1887 collected edition.
