Frédéric Chopin

  • Difficulty 6
  • G major

  • 114 measures

The Andante spianato that opens Chopin's Op. 22, published in 1836 with the Grande Polonaise brillante. Marked Tranquillo in 6/8, pp and sempre legato, a calm G major melody floats over the left hand's rippling sixteenths. A middle section in 3/4, marked Semplice, moves in quiet chords before the rippling music returns and the piece ends in chords under fermatas. This edition follows Schlesinger's Paris first edition of 1836.
