Score

Scherzo No. 2 in B-flat minorOp. 31

Frédéric Chopin

  • Difficulty 8
  • D-flat major
  • 9 min
  • 780 measures

The second of Chopin's four Scherzos, composed and published in 1837. Hushed triplet questions are answered by fortissimo chords, a broad singing melody in D-flat major follows, and a quieter middle section in A major builds back to the return before a brilliant coda closes in D-flat major. This edition follows the Breitkopf & Härtel collected edition of 1879, compared with the first editions, Fontana's copy and Chopin's autograph.
