Chopin's polonaise in A♭ major, published in 1843 and dedicated to Auguste Léo. A fanfare-like introduction leads to the main theme in the dance's proud dotted rhythm; in the middle section a march-like tune in E major rides over left-hand octaves that run down again and again. The theme returns and a short coda closes the piece. The nickname 'Heroic' came later. This edition follows Schlesinger's French first edition.
