Nocturne in B majorOp. 62 No. 1

Frédéric Chopin

  • Difficulty 6
  • B major
  • 5 min
  • 94 measures

The two Nocturnes, Op. 62, published in Paris and Leipzig in 1846, were the last nocturnes Chopin saw into print, and this B major Andante is the first of them. A rolled chord opens it, and the melody unfolds over a flowing accompaniment; a Sostenuto middle section turns to A-flat major. When the theme returns, its long notes are sustained by trills, and a free run leads to a quiet close. This edition follows the Paris first edition, whose proofs Chopin corrected.
