Étude in A-flat majorOp. 25 No. 1

Frédéric Chopin

The first of Chopin's twelve Études Op. 25, published in 1837 and dedicated to the Countess Marie d'Agoult. Marked Allegro sostenuto, it sets a melody in the right hand's top notes over wide arpeggios shared between the hands, mostly quiet, the sound Schumann likened to an Aeolian harp. This edition follows Herrmann Scholtz's Peters edition, with its fingering, pedalling and small accompaniment notes.
