The twenty-first of Chopin's 24 Preludes, Op. 28, published in 1839. Marked Cantabile in 3/4, a singing melody unfolds over a left hand moving in eighth-note double notes that slide chromatically. A middle section in G-flat major sets chords over the same motion, f and then pp, and a long cres. leads to ff repeated chords; after a dim. and an f accent in the bass, the piece closes on a held B-flat-major chord. This edition follows Breitkopf & Härtel's first edition of 1839.
