The twelfth of Chopin's 24 Preludes, Op. 28, published in 1839. Presto in 3/4, f: the right hand's eighth-note line climbs by half steps over accented chords, while the left hand alternates chords and low staccato octaves. The music builds through repeated crescendos to ff, returns to the opening f, and after a poco ritenuto settles on a held D-sharp over left-hand chords, dim. The prelude ends with two ff octaves, D-sharp and G-sharp. This edition follows Catelin's Paris first edition of 1839.
