Invention No. 6 in E majorBWV 777

Johann Sebastian Bach

  • Difficulty 5
  • E major
  • 3 min
  • 62 measures

The sixth of Bach's fifteen two-part Inventions, written out fair in 1723. In 3/8, one hand falls in syncopated, tied notes, at first by semitones, while the other climbs the E major scale in steady eighths; four bars later the hands exchange the parts. Each of the two halves is repeated, the second passing through related keys before it comes home to E. Edited from the Bach-Gesellschaft edition of 1853.
