The F-sharp major fugue from Book I of The Well-Tempered Clavier, written for three voices in common time. The subject opens alone in the upper voice after an eighth rest; the middle voice answers in the third bar and the bass enters in the fifth. After 35 bars it closes under fermatas on F-sharp and A-sharp. This edition follows Franz Kroll's Bach-Gesellschaft edition of 1866, with his eight short trill signs, four of them in parentheses as he prints them.
