PreludePrelude in C-sharp minor · BWV 849 · I

The C-sharp minor prelude from Book I of The Well-Tempered Clavier, 39 bars in 6/4. A melody in eighth notes opens over a low C-sharp held through the first two bars, and in bar 2 the tenor takes it up an octave lower. Mordents, turns, grace notes and rolled chords ornament the voices, and the piece closes on a C-sharp major chord. This edition follows Franz Kroll's Bach-Gesellschaft edition of 1866.
