Mazurka in A minorOp. 17 No. 4

Chopin's Mazurka in A minor, Op. 17 No. 4, the last of the four mazurkas first published in 1834. Marked Lento, ma non troppo, it opens with quiet left-hand chords before the melody enters, ornamented with grace notes and long, delicate runs. A brighter middle section in A major, marked dolce, follows; then the opening returns and fades away, perdendosi, onto a held A–C–F chord. This edition follows Carl Mikuli's 1894 Schirmer edition, with his fingering.
